Vocamus Press is as much about building a community of as it is about helping publish books, so we are supporters of local festivals and events that bring people together to celebrate writing.
CONTESTS, WORKSHOPS, AWARDS
Vocamus Press tries to help local writers develop their craft by connecting them to contests, workshops, awards, and other development opportunities in the area.
Vocamus Press believes in the value of a strong local publishing community. A list of Ontario publishers can be found at The Organization of Book Publishers of Ontario. These links are to publishers in Guelph’s immediate area.
MAGAZINES AND PERIODICALS
Vocamus Press supports writing through local magazines and periodicals as a way to showcase emerging writers and to encourage conversation about literature and writing.
Vocamus Press values the role of local, independent booksellers in producing a strong literary community.
Vocamus Press believes in growing literacy and writing at all levels, so it supports community organizations that promote literacy and writing.
Vocamus Press does not require its members to use particular programs to produce their books, but we generally use LaTeX for typesetting text, which essentially means taking your word processor documents and making them look pretty for publication. Those who are interested in more about what LaTeX is should check out www.latex-project.org. Those who already know their way around LaTeX a little might be interested in these links to help with LaTeX generally and with the Memoir Class specifically. Those who want to use LaTeX with their books but have no idea where to start, can email is at firstname.lastname@example.org. It is far less scary than it looks.
