Call for Submissions – Guelph Spoken Word’s Grounded

by jeremylukehill

Guelph Spoken Word is putting out a call for submissions to feature your work at Grounded – an evening of readings and performed works focused on the many forms that a relationship with our land base – and the Earth as a whole – can take.

Submissions can be in any printable art form (prose, stories, lyrics, page poetry, spoken word pieces, b+w art, photography, etc) and any conceptualization that touches on the overarching theme. They’re looking for a diversity of pieces, so they’ve left this as open as possible to interpretation – think everything from land acknowledgement and environmental justice to nature walks and meditations… what does a relationship with the land look like to you? Any piece may be submitted, but new and unpublished works are encouraged. Multiple submissions and a series of shorter works are allowed.

Selected works will be featured at an event on the evening of Saturday, April 22nd, with a wider range offered for viewing on our website. If chosen to feature at the event, the author will receive an honorarium of $50 and a spotlight on our media streams. If you can’t make the event, please do still submit your works and let us know that you can’t read/perform that evening.

Copyright remains the author’s – Guelph Spoken Word will only curate the feature event and publish selected works electronically (with the author’s permission). Any further publication will be at the author’s discretion.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, April 14th. Selection will be made by a panel of three judges from the spoken word, writing, and publishing communities. Pieces will be selected and authors informed by Monday, April 17th.

All works (or photographs of the work) can be sent electronically to
