Donald was born and raised in the small northern Québec mining town of Duparquet, graduating from Noranda high school, joining the Royal Canadian Navy at the age of 17. He served on many ships and posts between Victoria BC and Halifax Nova Scotia, retiring from National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa.
He was married to Beverly (nee Chipman) in 1956. (She died in 1999) He and Beverly resided, over the years, in Windsor Ontario, Montréal Québec, Halifax Nova Scotia, and Ottawa, when he retired to Guelph Ontario.
Donald’s first novel, Project Vampire, is an exciting military thriller that follows a Canadian naval officer as he engages in covert operations in exotic locales around the world.
