The Cromaboo Mail Carrier Book Launch
Vocamus Editions is launching Mary Leslie’s The Cromaboo Mail Carrier on Tuesday, March 8, 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the eBar (41 Quebec Street).
The Cromaboo Mail Carrier is the story of a young working class man and a middle-aged gentlewoman making their separate ways in the world of small town Ontario in the late 1800s. One of the earliest novels by a Canadian born woman, the book explores a unique culture where rough settler habits are rubbing up against the expectations of a growing “proper society.” Leslie writes with humour and wit, creating characters who are engaging and accessible even after a century and more.
David Knight, general editor of Vocamus Editions, and Daniel Bratton, who wrote the Foreword for the new edition, will both be on hand to introduce the book. Come on down, have a beer, and celebrate International Women’s Day by taking a peek into the fascinating life and work of Guelph’s earliest female novelist.
